TV5Monde, the global French-language entertainment network, has named longtime company executive Patrice Courtaban to the new position of EVP, global growth and business development, while concurrently promoting him to CEO of TV5 USA. TV5Monde’s content offerings are received by 400 million homes worldwide, in nearly 200 countries, and it averages some 60 million viewers per week, the company says.
The appointments are effective immediately and he will continue to be based in Los Angeles which serves as the headquarters for TV5 USA. Courtaban replaces TV5 USA CEO Jean-Luc Cronel who is retiring from the company.
In his new role, Courtaban will be responsible for identifying growth and revenue opportunities worldwide for all TV5Monde services, including linear offerings and TV5Monde’s streaming platform. His worldwide mandate will also involve the nurturing and oversight of new strategic partnerships, growth marketing and business development across all regions TV5Monde serves.
Additionally, as CEO, Courtaban will continue to lead TV5 USA’s premium linear and streaming channel offerings, which includes a wide range from current feature films, series, news, documentaries and sports. TV5Monde services are now available to 50 million U.S. cable, satellite and OTT households across America, in addition to nearly one million hotel rooms.
Most recently, serving as COO of TV5 USA, Courtaban orchestrated the exponential growth of the channel in America. In the U.S. his strategies have helped expand the channel’s distribution and reach via new MVPD partnerships and by negotiating renewal agreements, while successfully launching new content brands to U.S. consumers including:
- TV5Monde Cinema On Demand — The first U.S. subscription video on demand (SVOD) service devoted solely to French-language films
- TV5Monde Style — An art-de-vivre network featuring fashion and lifestyle content
- TiVi5MONDE — A 24/7 children’s network
Cumulatively these efforts have directly lead to a material increase in the nationwide subscriber base of TV5 USA.
Under Courtaban’s leadership TV5 USA has achieved major MVPD agreements that have allowed it to launch in numerous major markets and virtual MVPD agreements that have provided a national footprint. Today, TV5 USA is available to more than 50 million US cable, satellite and OTT homes.
Courtaban serves on the boards of directors of NATPE and SKEMA Business School. He also serves as the North American Chair of Entertech Collective, Chair of NATPE’s Multichannel Video Programming Distributor Committee and is an Honorary Board Member of The Federation of Alliances Françaises USA.
